New Bands! New Shows! New Chances To Catch Me Live!
Ever since the last Southern Cousins show back in November, lots of folks have been asking me, "When are you going to be playing out with a band again?"
The answer is... TOMORROW NIGHT! This Friday, June 11th at Lucky Lounge in downtown Austin, I will be premiering my all new band from 6-8pm. I hope you're in the mood for some Blues, because that's what this show is all about. Blues! Blues! Blues!
Visit the Facebook Event Page for this show.
Featuring Chris Johnson (Roky Erickson) and Kevin Remme (Paula Nelson) from McLemore Ave., and of course the always trusty Mac McNabb (SoulHat, Southern Cousins) on guitar. We'll also be joined by Steve Johnson on sax! There's NO COVER and Lucky Lounge is one seriously cool
venue! Ask Ian McLagan - He's
celebrating 6 YEARS of happy hours on Thursdays there coming up next
week!
Speaking of Ian McLagan, his longtime friend and drummer, Don Harvey recently approached me about singing in a new band he was putting together. If you know me at all, you know that I live to sing so I'm happy to report that we've been rehearsing this new band already! Our first date is on the books so mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 18th at Momo's. We'll go on at 8PM. More on that band as we get closer to the date.

Recording Vocals For Alejandro's New Album With Tony Visconti
At the end of last year I found myself singing backing vocals with Alejandro Escovedo as part of his "Sessions on South Congress" residency shows at the Continental Club. Alejandro used these shows as the building blocks for the album he was getting ready to record.
Once again Alejandro teamed up with legendary Producer/Arranger, Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T. Rex, Morrissey), and took the whole show back to Lexington, KY where they had recorded "Real Animal." This time, instead of strings, Alejandro brought along myself and Southern Cousins' Fresh Up Girl, Karla Manzur to record what has been called "essential background vocals."
It was such a blessing to be asked to sing on this record with Alejandro and his band and an honor to work with Tony Visconti. I cannot tell you how excited that I am to have been a part of this recording. "Streets Songs of Love" will be in stores June 29th and can be pre-ordered right now at AlejandroEscovedo.com. Grab a copy and watch me in the live video for "Anchor" filmed during SXSW at the San Jose Hotel.

A Mellow Monday At Ming's With Nakia & Friends
When I first started playing out live, I did it with just me and my piano. (Literally - I would take my own upright piano to a gig!) This year during SXSW I performed several solo dates beginning with the KGSR Music Lounge live from the Four Seasons and ending with a show I called "A Mellow Monday At Ming's with Nakia & Friends." That show was a big hit and a true highlight of my 2010 SXSW.
So, I decided to try and recreate that show the 3rd Monday of every month. I spoke with my pal Fai Jao, who owns Ming's and he said, "Let's do it!"
This month's show features Matt Hubbard, Karla Manzur, Derek Morris, & some special guests. I don't want to give anything away, but if you've been jonsin' for some Southern Cousins, I highly suggest you come out to Ming's on Monday, June 21st from 8-10PM.
While we're talking about solo piano shows... I've recently begun booking private house concerts again. If you're interested in having me play one for you please email me.
Also, I'll be making my second appearance
at Riverbend Church overlooking the gorgeous Lake Austin next to the
360 Bridge. I'll be doing two performances on Sunday, July 25th. Visit
my website for details.
